Happy Mother's Day

To all the mums, step-mums, grandmums, and mums-to-be ... I hope you all had a wonderful day today.  I'm lucky to be able to say that my own mum is also my best friend, which is something that is becoming rare in todays fractured society.
My own family gave me a lovely day ... all visiting and spending time with me, wonderful cards with heartfelt words, chocolate roses, and dinner cooked by number 2 son .... I could get used to this!!!  Why is mothers day only one day a year??!!
After such a relaxing day, tomorrow will be a challenge ... up early, now thats a challenge in itself. I'm off on the train to teach my badger stumpwork design to a group of ladies at Needle Nydle Noo in North Perth, for the next three Mondays.  I love teaching, and I'm excited about meeting new ladies and sharing what I love to do.  As for the experimental pulled thread work ... well I'm still thinking about that.
I'm hoping that meeting new stitchers will kick start some inspiration into me.  Hope you all had a great weekend.

  2. This badger is simply gorgeous. If only I lived in Australia and could come to your workshops! All of your work is stunning, a real inspiration and I can only hope that one day I will be as good as you. Best of luck with your last modules. I have nearly finished module 2 of the patchwork and quilting level three and I love it; like you I find there are just not enough hours in the day to fit it all in which really frustrates me because I am really keen to progress! I hope the workshop goes well, best of luck.

  3. Hi Julie, thank you for replying, it is lovely to hear from you. I also have a blog, and I did have it so that only people I invite could view it but I have decided this is silly because it all gets very complicated with passwords etc. and puts people off. So it is now free for all to see www.sarahashford.blogspot.com Although it is about my C and G Patchwork course, ironically there is more embroidery on there at the moment! I think blogs are a great idea, I look forward to looking at some of your past entries over a cup of tea soon :-)

  4. Hello there! I'm new to your blog and i just wanted to say hi. I just finished your possum post. It made me laugh! They look nothing like our possums. Ours has a long snout with rows of sharp teeth. And as hard as i try i cannot call them cute. LOL! Although we did find some babies in our yard a few years ago and they were still young enough to be cute!

  5. Oh goodness, I hope we didn't present too much of a challenge for you Julie! More like YOU presented the challenge to us!

We're two weeks in with the Needle Nydle Noo class and already I have learned so much from you!

I love the straight stitch/ thread painting mix technique, it's so effective! And really looks like fur!

I came right home and started my homework yesterday and now have one completed stump-work leaf ( my first ever!)

Even though my badger's nose needs some fixing, I am quite happy ( read thrilled as heck) with our progress and your teaching. I know we're a handful, but you handle us with grace.

Now, off to do some more homework!

  6. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant to add CONGRATULATIONS on the new grand baby! How very exciting ! FYI you so do not look old enough to be a grand mother!

And also, I love your blog header! It's so creative.

Now, I shall start in on my homework. My stitching friend Jo insists that Jane Nichols has the most homework out of any stitching teacher, heheh Jo has not met you! Lol !
